Federal Government Incentives (STCs)
When you install a solar power system in Australia, you receive Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) under the federal Renewable Energy Target (RET).
- STCs act as a rebate, reducing the upfront cost of your solar system.
- The number of STCs you receive depends on your system size, location and installation date.
- The rebate can save you thousands of dollars on your solar installation.

Cheaper Home Batteries Program
The Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program is a $2.3 billion initiative designed to make solar battery storage more accessible for households and small businesses. The program offers an approximate 30% discount on the upfront cost of installing small-scale battery systems ranging from 5 kWh to 100 kWh, applicable to both new and existing rooftop solar setups.
This program aims to enhance energy independence, reduce electricity bills, and support the transition to renewable energy by enabling more Australians to store solar energy for use during peak times or outages. The discount is facilitated through the creation and sale of Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) .
